The Box End Hydrotester tests coupling and pipe connections by filling the coupling with water, which is then pressurized up to 20,000 psi. Computerized sensors and high resolution cameras are used to detect leaks in the pipe, which ensures pipes are complaint to strict environmental requirements. Testing just the threads and couplings is faster than testing a full length of pipe, and it uses far less water. Engineered to accommodate a wide variety of specifications, the Brandt Box End Hydrotester is capable of testing pipe in diameter of 4-1/2" to 13-3/8".

Features
The pipe will be end referenced before entering the hydrotester. It is indexed into the hydrotester by means of a lift blade and settles into test saddles. The test saddles are inter-changeable for pipe diameter. The pipe clamp engages to secure the pipe within the hydro station. As well a clamp lowers behind the end of the coupling to prevent the pipe from moving during a test. The test head now engages the pipe, and a seal in the ID of the pipe expands while a seal on the OD of the coupling collapses. This cavity is then filled while the purge valve is open, allowing trapped air to escape. Once cavity is filled with water, the hydraulic pressure intensifier is activated to bring internal pressure up to test set point. Leaks are monitored both visually with high resolution industrial cameras pointing at the bottom segment of the coupling / pipe joint, and electronically with the PLC monitoring test pressure and intensifier position. After testing, the pipe is kicked out of the hydro and onto the exit skid and drain table. If there is a failed pipe, it is automatically culled into a salvage bin for later removal. After several tested pipe are positioned on the drain table, it raises to remove excess water from the product.
OD Variations
- Pipe OD ranging from 4 1/2" to 13 3/8". With quick change tooling, the Brandt hydrotester can accommodate the entire range on a single machine. The hydrotester is easily and quickly changed over to a new size with drop-in components.
End Condition
- The Box End Hydrotester accommodates pipe that has the coupling bucked on. The machine is also designed to handle all types of couplings.
Operating Modes
- The BrandtBox End Hydrotester can operate in various modes - fully automatic; semi-automatic; and manual. All adjustments from test pressure, fill pressure, and test time can all be controlled at a touch of a button from within the operator's station. Alarm diagnostics and maintenance screens for fast and accurate trouble-shooting.
Test Pressure/Control
- Can test with stable pressure of 500 psi (3.5 MPa) to 20,000 psi (140 MPa). Using a water-over-oil intensifier and a closed loop control, a quick and stable test pressure is obtained.
Sealing
- Urethane seals provide excellent life and are available for both OD and ID applications.
System Integration
- Test data of each pipe can be made available through the PLC and purchaser's network to other areas of the finish floor, including drifting station, marking system or bundler.
