Power

The all new Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) supplies you with the power you need to get to the emergency quickly and pull the light rail vehicles (LRV) up the steep grades found on light rail transit systems. With up to 600 horsepower the ERV can achieve up to 30,000 lbs. of tractive effort without weight transfer in a very compact envelope fitting even the smallest dimensional envelopes found in transit systems. This enables you to pull heavier loads up steeper grades at higher speeds without losing traction. Your response time to get to the emergency with the necessary re-railing and emergency equipment and then pull the LRVs to safety is dramatically reduced because of these higher speeds and very high tractive effort. The power for the Brandt ERV is derived from these key components:

The robust off road fully automatic transmission that transfers that powerful engine smoothly into raw torque ensuring the load can be pulled safely with precise control, yet enabling the Brandt Emergency Response Vehicle to meet all highway operation expectations.
Tandem lockable drive axle provides the weight carrying capacity and in turn increased traction to achieve the high tractive effort.
Brandt Patented Traction control system that provides the operator with control of the traction and stability on rail making it the safest car mover.

Mobility

The Brandt ERV is able to use both rail and road infrastructure to get to the emergency. This ability enables you to quickly get to the location and respond to the emergency more quickly than any other vehicle. The Brandt ERV can be easily converted from Road to Rail or Rail to Road in less than 3 minutes, and is ready to go when you are.

Converts from Road to Rail or Rail to Road in 3 Minutes. With the use of a camera monitor and a simple instruction procedure next to the controls the operator can ensure the conversion from road to rail or rail to road in under 3 minutes.
High speed capability of the Brandt ERV reduces the time it takes to get the job done! Forward speed on the highway is 60 MPH and on rail is 40mph in forward and 25mph in reverse.
Sharp Turning Radius allows operators to maneuver easily in tight yards and high-rail around 100 foot radius curves while pulling the LRVs.

Versatility

Designed with many productive options, the ERV excels at a wide variety of jobs from emergency responses to performing many maintenance tasks as a maintenance vehicle.

Re-rail Equipment Cabinet System holds all equipment in easy access cabinets ergonomically placed for the emergency crew to quickly and easily respond to the emergency. Designed specifically for easy handling of gear by the emergency crew.

Safety

Safety is the most important quality of any equipment manufactured for the rail environment. Accordingly, many safety features have been designed into the ERV to ensure the operator is working in a safe and secure environment.

Brandt High Rail System – The Brandt high rail system is the most robust, reliable and safest system on the market today. This patented system uses a pivoting bolster box with swing arms and air ride shock absorbed suspension ensuring maximum stability and comfort on the rail. The use of standard 28” wheels - 70 tonne railcar axles and 6X11 bearings ensure an extremely reliable long life high rail system
Programmable interlock systems on the various controls reducing a chance the operator makes a mistake while operating by setting safety parameters on the Brandt ERV.
Beacons, lights, locomotive 3 note horn, etc. – Track lighting provided at both ends, directional lights automatically showing indication of direction of travel with dash mounted On/Off control. White lights indicate the vehicle moving forward, while red light indicate the vehicle moving backwards.

Features

TRANSIT MODEL

The use of light rail transit systems throughout the world has created a need for an emergency response vehicle to be able to retrieve disabled cars. The Brandt Emergency Response Vehicle responds quickly to any type of emergency by getting to the site by rail or by road. Equipped with re-railing equipment the ERV is able to tackle any emergency situation it encounters. The vehicle has sufficient horsepower and weight to produce 30,000 lbs. of tractive effort in order to push or pull in forward direction six empty light rail vehicles on dry tangent track and two empty light rail vehicles in excessive of a 6% grade without the benefit of weight transfer system from one vehicle to the other. The Brandt ERV supplies the most tractive effort in the industry, ensuring our customers a reliable way of responding to an emergency situation.

Ensure the quickest response time possible with a top speed of 60 mph while on road and 40MPH on rail in forward direction and 25MPH in reverse. With Brandt’s high rail system you will be on the track within 3 minutes or less making sure that no time is wasted during these Emergencies.

Negotiate Sharp Turns

Designed and calibrated for standard gauge track and set to allow the vehicle to safely negotiate a 100 ft. radius curve embedded or 100 ft. radius raised rail. All guide wheels are non-insulated from each other to allow shunting between rails. The ERV ensures safe travel over curves in most transit systems.

Carries Re-railing Equipment

Optional large storage boxes permanently mounted on the rear deck of the truck hold all the equipment needed to re-rail a LRV. Hydraulic hose reel for re-rail equipment is double hose type compatible with hydraulic re-railing equipment and located in a convenient location for operators to access. Cabinet sizes and layout are customizable to meet your needs.

Hydraulic

A reel containing a 50 foot hydraulic hose can be mounted anywhere on the vehicle providing power to the re-railing equipment and other hydraulic tools used for emergency rescue with either 5 or 10 gallons per minute at required pressure.

An optional hydraulically driven Van Air compressor has been mounted under the deck of the vehicle that can be used for various operations.

Optional hydraulic AC generator can be included in the truck. With this option the ERV will have a total of four 120V outlets located at each corner of the truck. These outlets will be able to provide additional lighting when re-railing and allows the operation of more electric tools.

Coupler

The Brandt Emergency Response Vehicle is fitted with transit style couplers that meet your transit requirement and guarantee a safe, strong connection between the vehicle and the cars. Attaching to rail cars is easy and only takes a matter of seconds with the ERV's adjustable height coupler that ensures the ability to attach to any style of transit car in rail or road mode. The fingertip controls located near the couplers are effective and safe to operate.

Maintenance of Way Functionality

The ERV can be fitted with a Knuckle Boom crane for Maintenance of Way work. The heavy duty lifting capacity of the crane enables the user to tackle many material handling job efficiently. A ¼ cord Grapple and/or a 30 inch 5KW magnet/generator system is also available to handle Maintenance of Way materials.

Brandt Control System

The new Brandt Control System makes operating and maintaining your ERV simple and easy. The user-friendly screen keeps you informed with data on pressure, temperature, operation suggestion, fault codes, auxiliary equipment hours, and maintenance interval information – right at your fingertips.

Logic Programming

We introduced Logic Programming to adjust speed or to shut down systems such as cooling fans, air compressors, safety interlocks, etc. to reduce the overall hours on auxiliary equipment, decrease fuel usage and ensure a safe environment for the operation on the vehicle.

Improved Serviceability and Support

The ERV is easier to service and maintain than ever before. Access to grease points have been improved and the total number of points has been decreased. In several locations we utilized nitrate coated pins and lube brushings reducing overall maintenance time. Test ports have been installed in strategic locations to collect oil samples and for testing system pressures. As well, each ERV comes with a complete set of operator’s parts, and troubleshooting manuals to ensure the ERV is as user friendly as possible.
