The Compression Hydrotester tests large diameter pipe by using a collapsing seal, and applying up to 20,000 psi to ensure pipe meets strict regulations. Engineered to accommodate a wide variety of specifications, the Brandt Compression Hydrotester is capable of testing pipe in diameter of 4.5" to 16", and 20' to 60' in length.

Features
The hydrotester can test one pipe at a time. The pipe will be flushed and end referenced. It is indexed into the hydrotester by means of a lift blade and gravity feed onto test saddles. A let down arm controls pipe to gently position into saddles. The test saddles are inter-changeable for pipe diameter. The pipe clamps engage to secure the pipe within the hydrotester. The test heads now engage the pipe, which is filled while the purge valve is open, allowing trapped air to escape. The heads are locked in place by a pinning arrangement at the head stock (fair end) and a locking cylinder at the tailstock. Sealing is accomplished by using a collapsing urethane lip seal on the OD of the pipe. Once pipe is full, the hydraulic pressure intensifier is activated to bring internal pressure up to test set point. After testing, the pipe is released and kicked out of the support saddles and exits the hydrotester. Several tested pipe are now positioned on the drain table to remove excess water from the product.
OD Variations
- pipe OD ranging from 4.5" to 16". With quick change tooling, the Brandt hydrotester can accommodate the entire range on a single machine.
End Condition
- can accommodate beveled or deburred plain end square cut, API external upset, or coupled and threaded pipe.
Operating Modes
- can operate in various modes - fully automatic; semi-automatic; and manual. All adjustments including test pressure, fill pressure, pipe length and test time can all be controlled at a touch of a button from within the operator's station. Alarm diagnostics and maintenance screens for fast and accurate trouble-shooting.
Test Pressure/Control
- can test with stable pressure of 500 psi (3.5 MPa) to 20,000 psi (140 MPa). Using a water-over-oil intensifier and a closed loop control, a quick and stable test pressure is obtained. Frame is designed for a maximum end load of 1.6 million pounds.
Sealing
- collapsing urethane seals provide clearance for pipe entry resulting in excellent life.
System Integration
- test data of each pipe is logged and can be made available through the PLC and purchaser's network to other areas of the finish floor, including drifting station, marking system or bundler.
