The End Cut Off is designed to ensure quick and accurate beveling and parting on pipes prior to hydrotesting. It also provides quick cut offs in lengths of 18" for heat treat and pull test samples. The pipe is elevated and loaded into the end cut off spindle, which bevels and/or parts the pipe at various feed rates and surface speeds.

Features
The v-roll elevations are controlled on one single hydraulic cylinder and pull rod. There is a Linear Variable Differential Transducer on the cylinder so automatic heights can be achieved via the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). The v-rolls will convey the pipe through the bore of the end cut off spindle. The pipe will be jogged into the correct position manually.
The operator will put the machine in to automatic mode. The jaws of the chuck will engage on the pipe. The idler turning rolls are vertically positioned by a hydraulic or electric cylinder. The turning roll height will automatically go to a set position based on pipe OD. The V rolls will drop out of the way. Machining will commence and the operator can manually jog the turning rolls individually up to eliminate any whip in the pipe. The pipe will then be beveled and parted. The spindle is run at various speeds via a 75 hp vector drive motor. The in feed tables carrying the cutting tools will be synchronized to a specific feed rate based on the spindle rpm via a servo power screw. The parted sample piece will be dispensed into a cell. Upon completion the pipe will be released, the v-rolls will roll the pipe out of the End Cut Off and the kick outs will place the pipe on the exit skid.
Throughput Requirements
- The machine is designed for maximum throughput while ensuring adequate tool life. The transfer conveyor elevates the pipe to the end cut off centerline and quickly loads the pipe into the end cut off spindle. The automated spindle will bevel and part a pipe at various feed rates and surface speeds in samples from 2 inches to 18 inches. The samples will be caught and dispensed in to a holding cell. Cycle times and components were designed to ensure quick and accurate conveying, beveling and parting.
Functionality
- The pipe handling system will consist of a transfer conveyor which includes let down blades to move pipe on to the v-rolls, lateral kick outs for pipe exit, v-roll drives at variable elevations to convey the pipe in to the end cut off at the correct centerline elevations and the automated pop up steady turning rolls used to steady the pipes during machining.
